Cambridge resident Tom Bartlett has begun his journey to swim across Lake Ontario.

The 72 year-old dove in around mid-night from Niagara on the Lake, and he is attempting swim to Marilyn Bell Park in Toronto.

Bartlett is hoping to fulfill his childhood dream to swim across the lake.

The dream began 64 years ago, when an eight-year old Bartlett watched on TV as Marilyn Bell made the swim.

If he is successful, Bartlett would be the oldest to ever complete the swim.
