A Cambridge senior's bid to swim across Lake Ontario has ended.

Tom Bartlett was pulled from the water by his team on Tuesday night due to strong currents.

He had completed 42 kilometres.

The 72-year-old was trying to become the oldest person to complete the swim.

He told 570 NEWS before the swim it was a childhood dream.

The dream began 64 years ago, when an eight-year old Bartlett watched on TV as Marilyn Bell made the swim.

There was also an issue with some paper work that was not completed, to officially allow him to swim into the harbour in Toronto.
