Kitchener City Council has approved a development that will go up on Breithaupt Street.

The development, which includes a ten storey office tower, will go in across from the Google building.

The original plan was for 12 floors, but the developer earlier agreed to scale that back.

They also plan to add a small park and green space in the area surrounding the tower.

Many residents had raised concerns about the impact the new tower would have on traffic.

But city staff said that creating two entrances and a left turn lane on Wellington will help ease traffic concerns.

Ward 6 Councillor, Paul Singh says the developer, Perimeter, has always done a good job in having strong community engagement and dialogue.

"This is probably one of the better ones I've seen in design, effort that they made in trying to be, you know, sensitive to the neighbourhood...and of course, the positivity it's going to bring to the overall city with job growth." Singh told The Mike Farwell Show on 570 NEWS.

He also doesn't think it is precedent setting for the neighbourhood.

"I don't think so. I think staff, as well as council, will look at every proposal on its own merit." added Singh.
