Bereaved Families of Ontario - Midwestern Region (BFO-MR) have announced the expansion of their peer grief support programs to include 'the wide spectrum under which pregnancy and infant loss can occur."

This announcement comes during pregnancy and infant loss awareness month.

"Even though pregnancy and infant loss affects thousands of families each year, it can still be isolating and stigmatizing for parents who experience it," the news release states.

“For many years, our eight-week peer support group and one-on-one support has been focused on loss 20+ weeks gestation up to birth and 2 years of age,” said Carly Kowalik, BFO-MR Program Coordinator. “We recognize this is not inclusive of all areas of pregnancy and infant loss. We recently built up our capacity and trained more volunteers to be able to include supporting early-term loss and miscarriage.”

The program is eight weeks long and supports those who have experienced a miscarriage or early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, termination of pregnancy, or infant death up to one year of age.

It's intended to offer a safe space to connect grieving parents so they can support each other through loss; it's led by trained volunteers who have also experienced pregnancy or infant loss.

“We are honoured to have the opportunity to create this safe space for parents,” said Kowalik. “We’ve seen an increased demand for service and are grateful we can fill it with this expanded service.

Parents who wish to participate can register on the BFO-MR website.
