Backyard fire spreads through Kitchener home, cause under investigation

By Erin Anderson

A busy morning for fire crews in Kitchener.

Deputy Chief Rob Martin tweeting Tuesday morning that crews were called to an active house fire on Pattandon Avenue near Ottawa Street.

Officials tell 570 NEWS there was a “well-established fire” in the backyard, which spread to the home's interior.

Luckily, smoke alarms were set off and everyone inside was able to escape safely.

Fire crews faced a few challenges due to this morning's heat, nearby construction, and heavy smoke damage throughout the home.

There were no injuries, and damage is pegged well above $150,000.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
