Athlete of the year awards handed out Wednesday evening

Two pandemic years were covered off with a ceremony at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum

The Athlete of the Year awards have been handed out by the Kitchener-Waterloo, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich organizing committee.

Two pandemic years were covered off Wednesday night with a ceremony at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum.

The 2020 Athlete of the Year Award went to Shelina Zadorsky. The local soccer star helped lead Canada to its first Gold medal in women's soccer in Tokyo. 

The 2021 Athlete of the Year went to Ben Flanagan for track and field. Flanagan set a course record with his Canadian 10K championship race win.

He also finished first in five 2021 international races.
