Local politics takes centre stage, it’s municipal election day

Voters head to the polls today across Ontario for Municipal Election 2018.
One thing we do know for sure is that there will be a new Regional Chair-elect for Waterloo Region tonight.
After 33 years as chair, Ken Seiling will be retiring in December.
The candidates running to replace him are Jay Aissa, Jan d'Ailly, Rob Deutschmann and Karen Redman.
- in Kitchener, those running for mayor are Jiri Marek, Narine Sookram, Myron Steinman and Berry Vrbanovic
- in Waterloo, the candidates for mayor are Dave Jaworsky, Chris Kolednik and Kelly Steiss
- in Cambridge, Randy Carter, Doug Craig, Kathryn McGarry, Ben Tucci and Colin Tucker are all running for mayor
- in North Dumfries, the mayor's race is between Sue Foxton and Martin Harrison
- in Wilmot Township, Les Armstrong and John Jordan are running for mayor
- in Wellesley Township, the candidates for mayor are Joe Nowak and Bernia Wheaton
- in Woolwich, Sandy Shantz ran unopposed and has been acclaimed as mayor

Polls are open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
