Six local schools with absenteeism rates over 20 per cent

There are six schools in Waterloo Region reporting absenteeism rates of over 20 per cent.

The school with the highest rate in the area is Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School in Cambridge at 27.1 per cent.

Other local schools above 20 per cent include Southwood Secondary in Cambridge, Galt Collegiate in Cambridge, St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School in Cambridge, Kitchener's St. Mary's High School, as well as Forest Heights Collegiate in Kitchener.

The province began sharing data about school absences on Monday, a week after in-person learning resumed without public reporting of classroom COVID-19 exposures.

Data is from the previous school day, so for Monday's update, data is from Friday, January 21.

The province previously stated families will be notified once 30 per cent of students and staff are absent.

– St. David Catholic SS – Waterloo – 12.4 per cent
– St. Mary's HS – Kitchener – 20.9 per cent
– Cameron Heights CI – Kitchener – 19.4 per cent
– Edna Staebler PS – Waterloo – 0.5 per cent
– Forest Heights CI – Kitchener – 20.7 per cent
– Galt C & VI – Cambridge – 23.5 per cent
– Sir John A Macdonald SS – Waterloo – 19.1 per cent
– Southwood SS – Cambridge – 26.5 per cent
– WCI – Waterloo – 11.7 per cent
