School bus driver shortage improving but remains very challenging: STSWR

By Erin Anderson

We're seeing a slight decline in the number of school bus route cancellations in Waterloo Region.

For the past month or so, Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) reported multiple cancellations every week, including seven as of April 20.

As of this week, just three bus routes are cancelled.

A spokesperson with STSWR told CityNews 570 via e-mail statement that it continues to deal with a driver shortage and while the situation is improving, it remains very challenging.

It was reported in early April that some school bus routes may need to be cancelled due to a rise in driver absences related to COVID-19 and isolation requirements.
