Region reports 69 new COVID-19 cases

***Editor's note: The health department points out that due to changes in testing availability, case counts on its dashboard are an underestimate of the true number of individuals with COVID-19 in Waterloo Region.***

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 69 new COVID-19 cases over the last three days.
 
There have been 46,332 local cases since March 2020. The resolved case rate is 98 per cent.

Hospitalizations have gone down to 39. Eight patients are in intensive care with COVID.

The active caseload is down to 350.

No new deaths were reported, keeping the local death toll at 417. 

In terms of variants of concern, the region's dashboard shows 303 of those cases (97.1 per cent) have been linked to the Omicron variant since April 17.

86.2 per cent of residents five and over in Waterloo Region are now fully vaccinated. Over 1.34 million doses have been administered to local residents, including over 300,000 third doses. 51.6 per cent of those 12 and over have received a third dose.

54.3 per cent of children between 5 and 11 have received at least one dose. 40.7 are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the province reported 1,287 new cases Tuesday.

  • 87 per cent of those 5 and over have been fully vaccinated
  • 890 people hospitalized with COVID. 157 patients are in intensive care units with COVID-related illnesses
  • 1,296,786 total cases
  • 1,269,275 resolved cases
  • 13,164 deaths (3 new)
