Region of Waterloo Museums looking for objects and stories amid COVID-19

If you have objects and photos related to COVID-19, the Region of Waterloo Museums want to hear from you.

The goal is to accumulate objects, photos and stories that are happening in the region amid the pandemic.

And while they wouldn't be collecting right away, they want to catalogue what they have to see if this can become a future exhibit for the people of Waterloo Region.

“We're asking for things at this point because as the pandemic progresses, and things change, people might think 'I won't need this sign anymore, I'm going to toss it in the garbage,'” Stacey McLennan, Collections Curator and Registrar for the Region of Waterloo Museums told 570 NEWS.

“It's important to identify those things right now, even if we can't collect them until it's safe to do so.”

McLennan says they are not looking for masks, gloves or anything like that, more so items and objects that truly tell a story.

“So, we're looking to showcase the helpful neighbour who is collecting groceries,” she added, “Eventually at some point, we'd like to talk to doctors and paramedics as well.”

She says its really a call out for those wondering how they would like to contribute, and what they would like to contribute, though the project could morph and change a little bit.

“I would suggest that people check the museum's social media feed and our website regularly to see what we need, and it would be kept up to date.”
