Local hospital issues COVID-19 reminder

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

With COVID-19 still circulating in our community, a local hospital is out with a reminder to avoid non-essential visits if you're sick or have been exposed.

Updated provincial guidelines allow Ontarians with COVID-19 to return to work or school if their symptoms have been improving for at least 24 hours, they do not have a fever, and they do not develop any additional symptoms.

However, even if they exit self-isolation, they're still advised to avoid non-essential visits to high-risk settings for 10 days since their symptoms started.

In a post on social media on Wednesday, Grand River Hospital reminded the public to abide the guidance to help protect patients and staff.

“Please avoid visiting the hospital for 10 days from the onset of COVID-19 symptoms, or after coming in close contact with someone with symptoms or with COVID-19,” read the social media post.

Keep in mind, this only applies to care partners and non-patient visitors. Individuals can find detailed advice by filling out Ontario's online COVID-19 self assessment

If you are experiencing difficulty breathing, severe chest pain, confusion, or are losing consciousness — call 911.
