Latest regional COVID update shows drop in hospitalizations, active outbreaks

One new COVID-related death was confirmed by Region of Waterloo Public Health in the latest update.

As a result, the local death toll is now 494 since the start of the pandemic. 

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have lowered by 19 since the last update. There are currently 26 patients hospitalized, with six patients in intensive care with COVID.

161 new cases were also confirmed, putting the overall total at 53,476. 

The active caseload is down by 27 since the last update to 187.

A reminder, COVID-19 case counts are said to be an underestimate due to ongoing testing restrictions.
