Kitchener expands support for seniors

By Christine Clark

The City of Kitchener has been reaching out to seniors in our community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and is now asking for all residents to reach out if they know an elderly person in need.

Since March 23, city staff have placed over 1100 calls to 200 different seniors who would have been attending city programs if social distancing measures were not put in place.

The calls vary from a quick check-in to details on community supports if needed.

“Supporting the most vulnerable shows the very best of who we are as a City and the caring nature that so often defines our people and our community,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “By providing meaningful social interactions, we're supporting seniors' mental and emotional well-being, and connecting them to community resources to meet their current needs.”

Each person receiving the calls can outline how often they would like to be contacted.

Anyone who would like to be called can contact the city at 519-741-2916 to register.
