Hospitalizations up in latest local COVID update

***Editor's note: The health department points out that due to changes in testing availability, case counts on its dashboard are an underestimate of the true number of individuals with COVID-19 in Waterloo Region. Local data is being provided on Fridays***

No new COVID-related deaths were confirmed by Region of Waterloo Public Health in the latest weekly update, released on December 30.

There have been 500 deaths locally since the start of the pandemic, 182 of those in 2022.

The data also showed that local hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose by 20 since the last update. There are currently 52 COVID patients hospitalized. Intensive care admissions remain at four. 

227 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the latest update. The active caseload went up by 26 to 296, while 189 more cases were deemed resolved.
