Northbound traffic on Highway 24 to be re-routed

By Maddie Demarte

Region of Waterloo is continuing its new four-lane roadway in Cambridge.

The new road, McQueen Shaver Boulevard, will be located in the south end of the city, connecting Highway 24 and Highway 8.

Early next month on July 6, the region will close the northbound lanes of Highway 24 (Water Street) at McQueen Shaver, and detour traffic.

The region says this closure is to complete the roundabout at Highway 24 and McQueen Shaver Boulevard.

Drivers will be directed eastbound onto the new boulevard, northbound onto the Franklin Boulevard extension, and then westbound onto Myers Road.

The region's project manager for this new roadway, Andrew Doman, says this detour is expected to go until July 20.

A full 24-hour closure will be in effect late-July to allow the region to put down surface asphalt in the area.

No date has been set for this closure, however, an update will be provided when available.
