Highway 401 to close through Cambridge on April 30

By Maddie Demarte

There are more construction woes to keep in mind on Highway 401 through Cambridge this month.

The work to expand the highway to ten lanes continues, with an overnight closure expected on the evening of April 30.

Beginning at 9 p.m., both eastbound and westbound lanes will shut down at Hespeler Road, allowing for bridge demolition.

The closure is expected to last about 13 hours, reopening around 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 1.

Detours will be set up in the area, using the Hespeler Road exits and Townline Road.

Before the full highway closure, there are ramp closures expected as well.

During the week of April 18, a 36-hour closure of both the north and south Hespeler Road on-ramps to the eastbound 401 will take place.

All of this work is to move traffic onto the new northbound Hespeler Road bridge, which will allow for the demolition of the existing southbound bridge.
