Weekend Editor/Reporter - Kitchener, ON

Kitchener.citynews.ca, part of the dynamic Village Media network, is looking for a weekend editor/reporter in Kitchener, Ontario.

Can you do it all?

You will be responsible for working on stories for our online news site CityNews Kitchener. Writing, interviewing, editing, reporting, and photography. We have a part-time entry-level position for a reliable self-starter who can work independently, but also as part of a large, dynamic newsroom.

Responsibilities:

• Cover assigned stories in a busy news/talk operation
• Keep up to date with major developing stories and be able to tell these stories on multi-platforms
• Develop story ideas
• Conduct news interviews, write and edit stories/scripts and publish the finished product
• Assist in other areas of our operation as required

Qualifications:

• Degree in journalism, broadcasting or related field
• Minimum of 1-year experience in a newsroom
• Superior language, writing and editing skills
• Strong knowledge of journalism ethics and law
• Photography and associated editing software experience
• Able to work a variety of schedules, including evenings, nights and weekends
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Strong time management and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure
• Must be able to take direction and work independently
• Must have a valid driver’s licence with no restrictions and a clean driver’s abstract
