Wellington County OPP investigating pair of fatal crashes Wednesday

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Wellington County OPP are investigating a pair of deadly crashes that occurred within a three hour span on Wednesday.

The first happened over the noon hour on Wellington Road 32 in Puslinch, just outside of Cambridge. The second happened just before 3 p.m. on Wellington Road 17 near Alma.

OPP Constable Jacob Unger said they were the first two fatal collisions in Wellington County so far in 2023.

There was dense fog and steady rain on Wednesday, but Unger said it's still too early to determine if weather played a factor.

The collision on Wellington Road 32 involved a sedan and SUV. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Unger said a few 'good Samaritans' stopped right away, including a nurse who provided medical assistance on scene.

The victim in that collision has not been named, but has been identified as an individual in their mid-20s.

The other collision occurred on Wellington Road 17 at Eighth Line and involved an SUV and a transport truck.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead, who was an individual in their 40s, although they can't be identified further as next of kin is being notified.

The driver of the transport truck wasn't hurt.

Both crashes remain under investigation.
