Two bridge projects now complete in Wellington County

By Christine Clark

Some good news for motorists in the Guelph-Eramosa and Centre Wellington areas.

Two lengthy construction projects have wrapped up this week on time and on budget.

Engineered Concrete of Kitchener was the company behind the bridge rehabilitation of Penfold Bridge on Wellington Road 16 north of Fergus, something that has been in the works since May 24th.

Cox Construction of Guelph was responsible for the timely completion of asphalt resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation of Marden Creek Bridge on Wellington Road 7. That area has been shut down all summer.

The completion of these projects means Wellington Road 7 is no longer closed from Highway 6 to Wellington Road 51 north of Guelph.

Wellington Road 16 has also been reopened by Sideroad 20, north of Fergus.

Joe de Koning, Manager of Roads at the County of Wellington said in a release, “The County would like to thank the travelling public for their cooperation and understanding while we made important improvements and investments in our aging infrastructure.”

Including this year, a total of $340 million is set to be invested over the next ten years into the County of Wellington's aging road system
