Stratford Police Service used a tactical unit to enter a home in St. Marys after a male who threatened his neigbour barricaded himself into his own home.

Police were dispatched to the area of Park Lane and Thomas Street in St. Marys at 10 a.m. Thursday, after receiving a complaint that the male had allegedly threatened to kill the neighbour and the neighbour's dog.

St. Marys is part of the coverage area of Stratford Police Service.

Once on the scene, the man barricaded himself inside the home. Contact was attempted but the male repeatedly threatened to harm the police officers. Officers determined that the male was known to police and has outstanding warrants after failing to attend court to address a lengthy list of charges that includes assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose from October 2021, and a more recent set of charges, from last March, that includes assault with a weapon, resist arrest, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.

Due to the danger posed to the public, police secured the area around his home and closed off the surrounding area. Police negotiators attempted to contact the male to ensure a peaceful resolution but he was uncooperative, resulting in the tactical unit entering to conduct an arrest.

At 1:38 p.m., the male was arrested without incident. He was transported to Stratford Police headquarters and held in custody for a bail hearing.

Investigation also determined that the male repeatedly blasted an air raid siren at all hours of the day and night for the past couple days.

New charges include three counts of uttering threats and mischief.
