A reminder "when thunder roars stay indoors."

Norfolk County OPP say five people have been struck by lightning in Courtland.

The three adults and two children were struck at an address on Main Street before the 4:00 p.m. hour.

Through investigation, they say the five were standing under two large maple trees at the time.

They all suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospital.

"If you can hear thunder, it is your warning that you are within striking distance of lightning," OPP say.

"Every year in Canada, 6-10 people are killed and another 150-160 persons are injured as a result of lightning strikes according to Environment Canada. Everyone needs to have a safety plan in place regarding electrical storms and review it annually. Having a safety plan will help to reduce risk and injury caused by lightning."
