OPP say dozens of bronze vases have been stolen from graves in Zorra Township.
The flower vases are worth a combined $10,000, and were attached to grave markers within the Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery. The theft is believed to have happened sometime overnight on June 30.
"They're easily removed so people can put flowers in them," says Constable Stacey Culbert with Oxford County OPP. "There would have been about 40 of them on different markers within the cemetery."
The vases are sold for $250, but investigating officers have been told each one would only fetch $2-$3 if they were taken for scrap metal.
"We don't know why they're going in there to steal them, but one can assume that maybe they're thinking [the vases] are worth something," Culbert says. "There's so much more meaning that these vases have for people that place them there for their loved ones."
Culbert says the cemetery is located on a busy road, and police are appealing to anyone who might have seen something suspicious in the area between Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30 to report it.
