$2 million worth of damage estimated from Old Marina fire

Fire investigators are waiting for equipment to pull apart debris to determine the cause of the blaze

PUSLINCH – Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of a weekend inferno that levelled a Puslinch Lake fronting restaurant.

There’s not much left of the Old Marina Restaurant on McClintock Road beyond burned remains of the structure and debris after a Saturday afternoon fire that began around 1 p.m..

Puslinch fire chief Tom Mulvey said in an email crews were on the scene for 22 hours battling the blaze which has resulted in an estimated damage total of $2 million. It is believed the fire started in the basement.

Mulvey said the fire is not considered suspicious although investigation continues into the exact cause.

“We are waiting for the owners insurance company to send some equipment that will pull apart the debris so we can continue our investigation,” Mulvey said in an email.

A GoFundMe organized the day of the fire has seen nearly $25,000 in donations.

Evan Cook, the fundraiser organizer who indentifed himself as the owner's brother, stated on the GoFundMe page the donations will go towards anything not covered by insurance.

"As we aim to reubild, any additional costs of building etc. would be an added bonus to be able to not have to worry about," Cook wrote. "We are extremely grateful with the outpouring of help from the community already."
