Kitchener neighbourhood mourning loss of ‘KW Elvis’

By Matt Hutcheson

For years he was staple figure in the Frederick Mall and downtown Kitchener areas.

Ron, affectionally known as “KW Elvis,” was often seen walking the streets in his trademark Elvis costume and pompadour wig. At first glance, it would be easy to dismiss him.

Brain, a caller to The Mike Farwell Show, said he knew Ron.

“He was a great guy. Quite misunderstood. I think a lot people assumed he was a drug addict, but you know, he was not. He was just a guy with a developmental disability making his way in the world.”

Brain said he met Ron while working at KW Habilitation Services and quickly learned he was friendly and good natured.

“He was such a pleasant guy, not a mean bone in his body.”

That feeling was echoed across several social media posts. Not one person had something bad to say about Ron. Many took comfort from seeing him walking around the area in his trademark jumpsuit.

Some commenters described his passing as the end of an era.

The overall sentiment was that Ron will be greatly missed.
