New overflow shelter to open in Cambridge on Monday

A new temporary overflow shelter is set to open in Cambridge on Monday.
It will be located at the Super 8 hotel on Hespeler Road and will provide 30 additional spaces for those experiencing homelessness to have temporary accommodations.
The region and Cambridge Shelter Corporation made the decision to locate the site at the hotel after consulting with the city.
The fully-staffed site will be open 24/7, will enable physical distancing and will provide participants with medical support, food and other basic necessities.
Cambridge Shelter staff will work with participants to find permanent housing.
Since the pandemic began, the organization has been able to find permanent housing for over 80 people who didn't have homes.
