Driver handed $615 ticket for using phone while commuting near schools

The back-to-school safety push by police continues this week, with another reminder to pay attention while behind the wheel.

Police in Stratford stopped one driver for reportedly using their cellphone during the afternoon commute.

On Wednesday afternoon, around 2:30, police said a traffic unit officer began their watch at Forman Avenue and Britannia Street.

St Aloysius Catholic Elementary School and Stratford District Secondary School are both in that area.

“Within 2 minutes, a driver passed the fully marked police vehicle while using a cellphone,” said police.

A 47-year-old driver has since been issued a $615 ticket for driving while using a hand-held communication device.
