New festival area, water features planned for future of Waterloo Park

It’s set to be an exciting year for Waterloo Park as city hall decides what the next chapter has in store for what some call the “jewel” of the municipality.

The park was established in 1893, and is in need of a new master plan to guide future development.

The current master plan was developed back in 2009, and by the fall of 2027, it will be replaced.

Waterloo staff have begun the process of updating the master plan, with public engagement opportunities to come this fall to hear how the community would like to see the space evolve.

A few of the plans staff have floated early on in the process include the creation of an outdoor festival and events area within the park, a new water play area on the park’s east end, the installation of adult fitness equipment, updates to the rail station common area and more.

Staff and council also took a moment to recognize recent additions to the park. including the replacement of a playground off of Father David Bauer Drive, new signage, and improvements to infrastructure that support the Wonders of Winter festival.
