Panthers and Oktoberfest bringing traditions together in new partnership

Two of Kitchener’s oldest local pastimes will take the spotlight together this summer, as K-W Oktoberfest and the Kitchener Panthers announced a new partnership.
Thanks to the collaboration, local baseball fans can look forward to an “Oktoberfest in July” themed game on July 23, where the Panthers’ Jack Couch Park will be transformed into a celebration of Bavarian culture.
Those attending the event can expect themed entertainment, food offerings, musical acts and a variety of other experiences which seek to capture the spirit of Oktoberfest traditions.
The Panthers will hit the field wearing special “Berlin Keg Tappers” alter-ego uniforms, which both organizations say will “blend the team’s identity with classic Bavarian flair.”
In a release, Kitchener Panthers GM Shanif Hirani says, “This partnership is about bringing the community together. Both organizations have rich history in this region, and this collaboration allows us to celebrate that shared connection with our fans in a fun and unique way.”
Tracy Van Kalsbeek, the Executive Director of K-W Oktoberfest, agreed with the sentiment.
“This partnership gives us an exciting opportunity to share Oktoberfest’s unique spirit of Gemütlichkeit beyond the traditional fall season. Combining baseball, Bavarian tradition and community pride makes ‘Oktoberfest in July’ a can’t-miss experience.”
The two collaborating traditions are some of the oldest in Waterloo Region, with the Panthers playing their 107th season of baseball and K-W Oktoberfest celebrating its 57th year.
The “Oktoberfest in July” game will take place on Thursday, July 23, at 6:30 p.m., and other details and merchandise will be announced on the Panthers’ and K-W Oktoberfest social media pages.
