One crash on Line 86 caused another collision, making it more serious, with a victim from each incident sent to hospital.
Officers from the Waterloo Regional Police Service were called out to a double-crash scene in Wellesley Township just after 1 on Thursday afternoon.
Police said there had been a minor collision between two passenger vehicles; both had moved off to the side of the road.
But while those vehicles were parked there, two transport trucks collided on the same stretch of the roadway, and one of those trucks hit the two vehicles from the first unrelated collision.
A 25-year old man who had been driving one of the passenger vehicles went to an out-of-town hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 58-year old man driving one of the transport trucks had serious injuries; he was also sent to an out-of-region hospital.
Police at the scene on Line 86 kept the portion of the roadway around the crash scene closed for several hours for the investigation.
Officials have not said if charges are expected.
