Vincenzo’s in Waterloo recalls product due to salmonella risk

One of the most well-known food producers in Waterloo Region has recalled a batch of its product due to possible salmonella contamination.

Vincenzo’s, based in Uptown Waterloo, recalled certain packages of its Sweet and Savoury Mix.

The recall notice from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency was issued Saturday, and said, “This recall was triggered by the company. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.”

It said the recalled products were sold at Vincenzo’s store at 150 Caroline St. S. in Waterloo.

Packages covered by the recall have a bar code saying 2372188 015120, with a product code 7219 beside the bar code, and a best-before date of Dec. 10, 2025.

In terms of what to do if you have this product, the CFIA said, “Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.”

Also, “if you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider.”

The CFIA said food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make people sick.

The agency said young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems, can contract serious and sometimes deadly infections from salmonella.

And even healthy people may experience short-term symptoms including fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea; and long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
