Heavy and blowing snow impacts Wednesday commute

Environment Canada issued a yellow warning for snowfall as two Alberta Clippers descend on the province, with possibly 20 centimetres of snow expected to fall.
The national weather agency called for periods of heavy and blowing snow due to the low-pressure systems in Waterloo Region.
It first brought snow and freezing rain through the area on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The snow transitioned to heavy flurries on Wednesday morning, with forecasters calling for more lake-effect snow squalls into Thursday.

By 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, 6 cm of snow was recorded in parts of Kitchener.
The cities of Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo announced that snow events would take effect on Wednesday.
Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning, there were numerous reports of vehicles ending up in the ditches.
This included a full Highway 401 eastbound closure through the Drumbo and Ayr area.
Waterloo regional police also reported a closure west of Elmira on Line 86 due to a multi-vehicle crash.
Following the two clippers, Waterloo Region could see the coldest air of the season this weekend.
Temperatures will fall throughout the day on Sunday. Around noon, it will be -9 C and dropping to -14 C by the evening.

An Alberta Clipper is a fast-moving low-pressure system that comes from Alberta, moving through the Plains and the Great Lakes region during the winter.
It usually brings light snow, strong winds and colder temperatures along with it.
