Rangers put up six goals against Ice Dogs, extend win streak to two games

The Kitchener Rangers brought their A-game on Friday night, as they extend their winning steak to two games in a 6-3 win over the visiting Niagara Ice Dogs.

After trading a goal each, the Ice Dogs took a 2-1 lead after the first period. Going into the second, the Rangers’ sticks got red hot, scoring four unanswered goals between the second period and the beginning of the third, including two from captain Cameron Reid.

Niagara managed to make it close with a power play goal from Liam Spencer to bring it within two. But Andrew Vermeulen sealed the deal for the Rangers 11 seconds later with an empty net goal.

Rangers defenceman Jakub Chromiak took the game’s first star, leading the team in assists with three on the night. Reid was named second star for his two-goal performance.

This is the second game in a row that the Rangers have scored six goals, after their win against the Generals on Sunday night.

The win puts the Rangers at the top of the Midwest Division, with a record of 15-7-2-0, obtaining 32 points in 24 games.

The weekend is not done for the Rangers, as they head to Brantford on Saturday night to face the Bulldogs.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
