Former Kitchener Centre MP named Deputy Leader of Federal Green Party

The Green Party of Canada announced that a local former MP, Mike Morrice, will now be brought on as the party’s Deputy Leader.
Morrice was previously elected as the MP for Kitchener Centre in 2021, where he served until the 2025 election, being outvoted by a margin of just around 300 votes by Kelly DeRidder and the Conservative Party of Canada.
“Since I first ran to represent Kitchener Centre in 2019, I have used the platforms available to me to make meaningful progress on our local priorities,” said Morrice. “By connecting with communities like ours, which continue to face affordability, housing, and mental health crises, we can build the necessary momentum required for the change we need.”
It comes amidst some impending leadership changes for the federal Green Party, with Leader Elizabeth May previously announcing that she will no longer be head of the party come the next election.
“Working with Mike Morrice has been a highlight of my time as MP and Green Party leader. As we prepare for the next chapter of our growth as a party and a movement, I am thrilled Mike has agreed to serve in this leadership role,” said May. “Work from his time as MP on affordability, housing, and pushing for the Canada Disability Benefit continues to improve the lives of people across Canada, and I can’t wait to see what he does next.”
Morrice has stated that he will be running once again for the riding of Kitchener Centre come the next election, which is currently slated for 2029.
