Holiday Smile Cookie week kicked off Monday at Tim Hortons locations across Canada, including in Waterloo Region.
The special white chocolate sugar cookie with red and green sprinkles and its signature white icing smiley face is available for $2 plus tax.
All of the proceeds are once again set to be donated to local charities, community groups and Tim Hortons Foundation camps.
One of those local groups is The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
CEO Kim Wilhelm told 570 NewsRadio the extra smiling support goes right back into the community.
“We are so thrilled to be a charity partner for Tim Hortons again. This is our third year having the Holiday Smile Cookie, and we are so fortunate that Tim Hortons continues to recognize that food insecurity is a challenge in our community right now,” she said.
Last year’s Holiday Smile Cookie campaign raised $10.7 million Canada-wide.
Just over $76,000 of that was shared with The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, which is the equivalent of 153,000 meals.
In October, a record number of families and individuals required food assistance in the region, something Wilhelm doesn’t believe will improve any time soon.
“As the weather continues to get colder, and people move into the holiday season, we will likely start to see additional records being broken here and probably right across the country.”
The Holiday Smile Cookie campaign supports hundreds of charities across Canada. It ends on Sunday, Nov. 23.
