After a moderate delay, the City of Cambridge is set to celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated and expanded Preston Memorial Auditorium.
Construction delays forced the city to cancel a grand opening celebration last month, opting for a soft launch in the interim.
But now the city is ready to celebrate the completion of the multi-million dollar project.
Visitors are invited to check out improvements made to the existing ice pad, change rooms, ice resurfacing room and other amenities.
The renovations also included the addition of a new NHL-sized rink, new change rooms, seating, washrooms, as well as multipurpose rooms and office space.
The province contributed $1 million to the project through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.
Local dignitaries will make remarks ahead of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Following that, visitors can enjoy a free public skate, family activities, inflatables, the Cambridge Rivulettes will play a game, and there will be food trucks on site.
The city will also have 20 sensory backpacks available to lend for free.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, with the events beginning at 5 p.m.
