Regional police warn of scam involving electronic projectors

Regional police issued a warning for those in the market for electronic projectors this holiday season: don’t buy them out of someone’s car.

Police say between Aug. 7 and Oct. 9 they received 14 reports of people attempting to sell the merchandise out of their vehicles.

The suspects would allegedly tell victims that the projectors were “high quality” and were offered at massive discounts. When the victims took them home, they would be in poor condition.

Police are reminding those to be on the lookout and to avoid buying those items from people outside of legitimate retailers.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterloo Regional Police Service at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers.
