Guelph police charge driver who hit a teen, spoke with her, then drove away

Guelph Police Service laid charges for a hit-and-run that officers said included a conversation between the driver and the teenage victim.

Police said it happened soon after 1 p.m., Monday, on Harvard Road at Gordon Street, near Stone Road West.

A 17-year-old girl was crossing in the crosswalk, according to police, when she was struck by a pick-up truck.

Police said she went up on the hood before landing on the street.

That’s when the driver allegedly asked the girl if she was OK, to which she replied “no.”

Police said that’s when the man drove off.

But a witness got the licence plate number and called officers, and gave a description of the driver.

Police found him in a nearby parking lot and spotted “fresh scuff marks” on the truck’s hood and grille.

Police said the 22-year-old Port Dover, Ont. man was charged with careless driving and failing to remain at the collision.

The teenaged victim went to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
