Guelph police searching for accused who tried to lure children with candy

The search is on for a young man who allegedly tried to lure children by offering them candy at a hockey game in Guelph.

Guelph Police Service said they were called, Monday about an incident that reportedly happened Saturday afternoon during a minor hockey game at the West End Recreation Centre.

A woman told police a young man in a red hoodie offered candy to her seven-year-old daughter and a younger child she was playing with, if they would go with him.

Police said the kids ran off and told the girl’s mother, who confronted the suspect. He reportedly denied it all and quickly left.

Another parent from the other hockey team later said her daughter had also been approached in the same way by the young man.

Investigators turned up video from the event that briefly captured the suspect speaking with the first two children.

Police described the suspect as a 16- to 18-year-old male, with a thin build and dark short hair, and at the time was wearing a red hoodie and dark pants.
