Grocery store workers, police officers assaulted by thief in Cambridge

Two staff members of a grocery store in Cambridge were hurt after a man repeatedly stole from the business on Friday.
Regional police said that a suspect is in custody following a disturbance at a business. Officers were called to the area of Dundas Street North and Main Street at 11:05 a.m. Through the investigation, they learned a man had taken merchandise from the store and assaulted an employee who was trying to intervene.
The man left the store and then returned a short time later. In the second incident, he assaulted another employee at the entrance and left again.
Police were able to track down the man and arrested him, but during this process, he was combative, a press release reads, and officers said he assaulted them.
As a result, a 39-year-old from Cambridge is facing several charges including:
- Robbery
- Assault with a weapon
- Assault peace officer (two counts)
- Assault with intent to resist arrest
- Mischief under $5,000
He is remaining in custody until a bail hearing.
