GRT improvements to close Fountain Street South in Cambridge

Drivers who regularly travel along Fountain Street South in Cambridge are getting an early heads-up for some substantial work headed to that roadway.

Beginning on Oct 20., the Region of Waterloo says that Fountain Street South will be closed to traffic between Blair Road and Dickie Settlement Road.

That closure is said to make way for some improvements to Grand River Transit service through that stretch, including new concrete bus landing pads planned for either side of Fountain Street near Blair Road. That closure will also allow for the installation of new sidewalks, curbs and gutters.

Work on Fountain is expected to stretch through Oct. 24, but in the meantime, drivers will need to detour around that area.

The posted detour shared by regional staff is substantial, directing traffic through West Galt and along Blair Road.

The planned construction work is also expected to bring Grand River Transit detours for Route 57 and Route 61. People can find more about those detours here.
