Fire closes Guelph school for the rest of the week

A Guelph elementary school will stay closed for Thursday and Friday after a fire earlier this week.

Mitchell Woods Public School on Willow Road was first closed Wednesday after a mechanical room fire.

The Upper Grand District School Board said it needed more time for a “thorough cleanup and inspection of equipment and systems.”

It’s still not clear what caused the fire or how much damage was done.

The just over 500 JK to Grade 8 students who attend the school will be learning from home in the meantime.

The school board hopes to open the school by next week, noting they will update families as soon as possible.
