Excitement for KW Oktoberfest is building around Waterloo Region, and on Monday, a popular Canadian artist was announced as the official keg tapper to kick off celebrations.
Steven Page, former frontman of the Barenaked Ladies, will tap the keg on Friday just after 11:30 a.m. alongside KW Oktoberfest Board President ChefD at Willkommen Platz at Carl Zehr Square.
“We’re incredibly excited to tap the keg with Steven and ChefD this Friday as we kick off the 57th year of Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest,” said Tracy Van Kalsbeek, executive director of KW Oktoberfest, in a press release. “The growth of Willkommen Platz over the past few years has been remarkable, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our 350+ volunteers and the generous support of funding partners like the Government of Canada – Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, Heritage Canada, Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, Region of Waterloo and the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo.”
Downtown Kitchener turns into a Bavarian village along King Street from Queen Street to City Hall from Friday, Oct. 10 to Sunday, Oct. 12.
Later on Friday, Page will headline a night of music at the Circle K stage, with performances by Canadian rock band The Watchmen, Polka King Walter Ostanek, UN Jefferson, and Jessie T.
