Cyclist seriously injured in Waterloo hit-and-run

A young woman is recovering in hospital after being struck by a Mercedes while out for a nighttime bike ride in Waterloo’s university district.

It was on Tuesday around 10:45 p.m. when regional police were called for a reported collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle in the Albert Street and Seagram Drive area of Waterloo.

That driver failed to remain on the scene, leaving the area before police could arrive. Police say that the involved vehicle is believed to be a newer Mercedes SUV.

The cyclist that was struck, a 23-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious, but non-life-threatening.

The investigation is ongoing and police would like to hear from any witnesses, including those with dash-cam footage of the collision.
