Road improvements close section of Victoria Street in Kitchener

Drivers heading through the Victoria Hills area of Kitchener will want to keep an eye out for some changing road conditions along Victoria Street South.

As work continues to improve Victoria Street, that roadway will have a new closure beginning on Monday morning: the west side of the Victoria Street South and Westmount Road intersection has been closed, with Victoria closed from Westmount through to approaching Vicmount Drive.

That closure is expected to be in place until mid-October, while a previous closure on the west side of Victoria Street and Fischer-Hallman Road has since been lifted.

Two-way traffic is still flowing on the east side of that intersection, on Westmount Road.

Motorists looking to detour around that Victoria Street closure are encouraged to use the posted detour:

The region also notes that work on Victoria Street is expected to close the roadway on the east side of intersections with Fischer-Hallman Road and Westmount Road later in October.

With a budget of roughly $12 million, improvements along Victoria Street are set to include separated bike lanes between Lawrence Avenue and Westmount Road, pedestrian refuge islands and traffic medians, upgraded traffic signals and more.

You can find more information regarding the Victoria Street improvement project, stretching from Fischer-Hallman Road to Lawrence Avenue, on the region’s website.
