Kitchener Rangers add prospects, send stars to NHL training camps ahead of new season

The wait is nearly over, hockey fans.
The Kitchener Rangers are making some last-minute additions to their roster with just one week to go before the start of a promising new season.
This week, 10 Blueshirts are heading to NHL training camps, either with the team they were drafted with or after getting an invite as a free agent.

- Max Dirracolo – Detroit Red Wings
- Luke Ellinas – Ottawa Senators
- Matthew Hlacar – Toronto Maple Leafs
- Christian Humphreys – Colorado Avalanche
- Christian Kirsch – San Jose Sharks
- Andrew MacNiel – Montréal Canadiens
- Jack Pridham – Chicago Blackhawks
- Cameron Reid – Nashville Predators
- Luca Romano – New York Islanders
The Rangers also made history this week by signing 16-year-old defenseman Tommy Kut to a contract. The 6’3″ prospect is the first Hong Kong-born Blueshirt and will split his playtime this season in Jr. A with the Toronto Patriots.
“I am really honoured to sign with the Kitchener Rangers. Grateful for this opportunity and excited for the journey ahead,” said Kut in a press release.
Kitchener also did some work to shore up the goaltender position by signing an exciting young prospect to a contract. American Mason Hriczov, 16, will wear number 30 this season for the Rangers, and has a bright future, according to General Manager Mike McKenzie.
“Mason had a really good training camp for us. He’s shown really good ability for a 16-year-old, and we think he’s going to be a top-end goalie in our league,” said McKenzie in a press release. “He’s big, moves well, and is competitive. We’re excited to welcome Mason and his family to the Rangers.”
The Rangers’ pre-season will wrap up this weekend with a pair of games against the Oshawa Generals and Windsor Spitfires.
The regular season starts next Friday against the Brantford Bulldogs at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
