Regional police celebrate first arrest for Bauer, the new K9 officer

In video posted to social media, Waterloo police are sharing the proud moment their K9 Bauer made his first arrest as an officer.

It’s the very first arrest for a rookie officer at Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), and that officer is getting a lot of extra treats and pets as a result.

WRPS posted a message on social media platforms about its new police dog, PSD Bauer, making his first arrest during a traffic stop in Cambridge.

Police said it was around midnight, Thursday night, at an unspecified location in that city, when a driver ran off into the woods.

Bauer was brought in, and body camera video from Bauer’s handler shows he sniffed out the suspect at about 12:15, Friday morning.

The handler is heard shouting to the suspect, “Get your hands out where I can see them! Get them out,” while Bauer barks loudly.

Half an hour later, Bauer was back in his police cruiser, getting praises of “Yeah, buddy!”

Police have not specified what charges the driver is now facing or why they were pulled over.
