Guelph Police have confirmed to 570 NewsRadio that an 80-year-old woman who was assaulted in that city has now died.
Police laid charges of attempted murder, but can not comment for now as to what that charge will be upgraded to.
It was on Sunday, around 9:40 a.m., when police responded alongside emergency crews to the downtown area of Guelph, near Wyndham Street North and Macdonell Street.
Upon arrival, police found the woman and transported her to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The assault suspect, a 34-year-old Guelph man, had fled the area before police arrival, but he was later identified and arrested on Sunday night.
He was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
Investigators believe that the two had met previously, but were “not close acquaintances.”
