Newest member of Kitchener Rangers broadcast team announced

It’s another exciting year for Kitchener Rangers hockey, with new faces both on and off the ice.

With a move to retire and spend more time with his family, Paul Fixter is no longer in the 570 NewsRadio broadcast booth with play-by-play man Mike Farwell.

Fixter joined the 570 NewsRadio team as colour commentator back in 2023.

Farwell said it was not an easy decision for his good friend when it came to hanging up the headphones.

“You could just see in his face that he loved doing this, but it was time. He’s got family time, time to spend in warmer places than in hockey rinks in the winter and we are thrilled for him.”

In comes a new and familiar face to the 570 NewsRadio audience, Josh Piercey.

The newcomer is no stranger to the good ol’ hockey game, watching St. John’s Maple Leafs and Fog Devils games as a kid at Mile One Centre, now Mary Browns Centre, in St. John’s, N.L.

“Obviously big shoes to fill, Paul is a legend in the hockey world, Rangers Nation loves him,” said Piercey.

He describes himself as a proud Newfoundlander who admires broadcasters from his home island, like the legendary Bob Cole. Moving coast to coast, Piercey spent two years as the voice of the Revelstoke Grizzlies in Revelstoke, B.C., a team that won the KIJHL championship and the Teck Cup during his time there.

His broadcasting chops are thanks to the good people at the College of Sports Media in Toronto.

This includes legends of the industry like John Shannon, award-winning sportscaster, and current professional sports broadcasters like Evanka Osmak, Sportnet anchor.

“I have a lot of respect for Rangers Nation … I’ve only scratched the surface of how deep the roots of this team go in this community. I’m happy to have the opportunity to come on and be a part of the story we’re telling here.”

You can come say hi to Piercey and Farwell at Rangers FanFest on Sunday afternoon. The pair will be broadcasting live from 12-1 p.m.

The Kitchener Rangers hit the ice for their season and home opener on Friday, Sept. 19, against Brantford.

You can hear the game live with Farwell and Piercey on 570 NewsRadio.
