LRT service resumes in Kitchener after train hits pedestrian’s shopping cart

There was a temporary disruption in LRT service through part of Kitchener on Friday after an ION train hit a pedestrian’s shopping cart.

Grand River Transit (GRT) reported shortly after 11 a.m. that ION trains were not running between the Kitchener Market and Mill stations due to a collision.

Waterloo regional police confirmed officers were called to a crash at the Borden LRT station.

The ION train reportedly “made contact” with a pedestrian’s shopping cart. It appeared as though the pedestrian was not struck and there were no reported physical injuries.

Police continue to investigate the incident. ION service fully resumed before 1 p.m.
